One of the sorrows of my life is that I live in an era when slavery has been banned in every country in the world, yet some people still believe that a book in which slavery is legal is the word of God.
The Holy Quran
Surah Muhammad, Verse 4: "So when you meet those who disbelieve, strike their necks until you have thoroughly defeated them, then bind them firmly; thereafter, either release them generously or accept a ransom…"
Surah An-Nur, Verse 33: "And those of your slaves who seek a manumission contract, make such a contract with them if you know any good in them, and give them from the wealth of God which He has given you…"
The Bible (New Testament)
Ephesians 6:5: "Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ."
Colossians 3:22: "Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favour, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord."
The Torah (Old Testament / Tanakh)
Exodus 21:2: "If you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he shall go free, without paying anything."
Leviticus 25:44–46: "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves… You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and make them slaves for life."
