About me

I'm Omid Jamshidi – plenty of people know me as Omid57. I came to Germany in 1995, aged 17, and three years later I became politically active.

Independent, but never alone

Over the years I've worked with many groups and political figures, both inside Iran and abroad, without ever becoming a member of any of them. I believe good work deserves support, whoever is doing it.

Standing up to discrimination

For more than three years I've been fighting a case in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. On the other side is a state government with the best lawyers and every resource imaginable.

Everyone told me to leave it and not to cause trouble for myself. But I'm not doing this for me. I see it as my duty – for the generations to come and for everyone else who has suffered racial discrimination.

When I was young, I punched walls to make myself stronger. Nowadays I'm punching a different wall: injustice. And I won't stop until it falls.

What I write about

  • Human rights – in Iran, in Germany and everywhere else
  • Cases where the authorities and the courts have failed people, and why we mustn't look away
  • Persian poems and short stories, translated simply
  • Clear facts and overviews, such as the death penalty worldwide or the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Who I write for

Mainly for Iranians and for people in Germany. But plenty of friends in the US, the UK and Canada follow my work as well – which is why this site is in five languages.

I've seen the world up close

I've travelled a lot – to the US, Canada and Mexico, to Spain, France, Greece, Turkey, the UAE, Croatia and Albania. Every trip introduced me to new people and new cultures.

And everywhere I saw the same thing: whatever language people speak and whatever they believe, they want the same things – safety, respect and freedom. That experience is what made humanity my religion.

This website and AI

I mostly write in Persian. The German, Spanish and English versions are translated with the help of AI (Google Gemini), and every translation says so underneath. Parts of the text and design of this website were also made with AI's help – but the thoughts and opinions are all my own.
